Wie Pledges $500,000 to Katrina Fund

Michelle Wie made it official today – she’s a golf pro.  This is what she said…

 

"I’m finally happy to say I’m a pro starting today," Wie said, wearing a pink Nike shirt and high heels that made her look even taller than 6 feet. "The first time I grabbed a golf club, I knew I’d do it for the rest of my life. Some 12 years later, I’m finally turning pro, and I’m so excited."

 

She also took a sizeable portion of her $10M in endorsement money and pledged it to the Katrina relief fund organized by the LPGA.  Sure there will be a lot more money in endorsements in the future but that was a really nice gesture on her part.  READ MORE>>>

Michelle Wie Press Conference on Golf Channel

Check out the Golf Channel (channel 72 on my cable) for live coverage of the Michelle Wie announcement that she is turning pro.  Not a big secret, but it should be pretty cool to see a definitive start to her golfing career.  When she goes to school after the press conference, she’ll be cool $10 million richer.  Contracts with Nike and Sony are the first to line up to snag Wie as an endorser.  I’m sure many more will come down the pike.
