Tournament Officials Pray Michelle Wie Makes a Cut
Tuesday, November 29th, 2005Michelle Wie reportedly pocketed a cool $1 million just for showing up to the Casio Open in Japan. So she missed the cut, but still walked away with more money than most LPGA wins will bring. At this rate she could just schedule a long list of tournaments and make more money missing cuts than Sorenstam did all last year!
I can understand the lure of a Michelle Wie, especially in a Men’s tournament. The fact is, golf, like any other sport is ultimately about money. The tournament that can attract the audience will make money. Period. Casio Open Tournament officials remarked, “ it is true that Miss Wie’s participation boosted the event”. Of course she did, and she will continue to do so. BUT…the first men’s event that she actually makes the cut will be the big money maker.
So all across the globe, men’s golf tournament execs are praying, “please let our tournament be the one that Michelle makes the cut!” No, they aren’t praying for her to win yet….that will be soon though.
