Michelle Wie 3rd Ranking Irks Some

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006
Someone probably thought they were doing Michelle Wie a favor by ranking her #3 in the Rolex Women’s world ranking.  It is no wonder that Michelle has been on the defensive a little lately.
Why?

Consider this….she has only played in 15 LPGA events, and has not actually won anything and  in spite of those stats she has managed to pass up some pretty darned good players - Cristie Kerr (fifth), Juli Inkster (10th), Grace Park (11th), Karrie Webb (13th) and Meg Mallon (44th).

Now, since she finished third-place finish at the Fields Open, Wie has leap-frogged over Paula Creamer to become No. 2 behind Anikka Sorenstam.  Uhhhh…..can we say “resentment”?

Never before has the tension been so think on the LPGA tour.  And you can’t blame these women.   One can only imagine what they say to their spouses or close friends behind closed doors.

You can’t blame Michelle Wie either.  She didn’t come up with the kooky method by which these rankings are put together.  After all, she just plays golf, and quite well at times - (oh, and cashes $10 million checks, but that part is easy.)

Should be fun to watch these women duke it out this year.  You can be that in many of the LPGA players’ minds, Michelle has a huge target on her back.
