Wie Tied for 1st at US Open

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Michelle Wie is tied for the lead with the other 155 golfers after the delayed first round of the US Women’s Open.  Rain caused delays on the first day, and it looks like Sunday will be a 36 hole day – an option that most golfers would rather see than an extra day of golf.  Michelle looked as good as she played, pushing the boundaries of golf fashion, sporting a blue mini-skirt, black underneath and orange Nike hat as well. (for $10 million she better wear the hat).  Winning the LPGA US Open would be put the naysayers in their place.  If she can pull this off, look for her to play as many men’s tournaments as she wants without a peep from the Wie-bashing diehards.

Wie and Sorenstam Favorites at US Open

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Two of top women players in the world – Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie – will battle it out this weekend at the Women’s Open at the Newport Country Club in Newport, RI.    Both are still tops in the world, but neither can seem to win these days.  Sorenstam has not won a tournament since the Master Card Classic, and Wie has experienced a few meltdowns going into the final holes of some major tournaments lately.

No doubt that Michelle could “totally relate” when watch Mickelson blow the men’s US Open recently.  At least she knows she is not alone and it can happen to anyone.  That’s the cruelty of the game at times.  Michelle still seems to be taking it in stride however.  Only time will tell if she makes it a habit.

Here are the dates and times for viewing.  If Annika and Wie are in the running going into Sunday, you can bet the rating will soar.

Wie Bashing a Sport?

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Here is an interesting article on what some say as a hot topic: bashing Michelle Wie.  Overall, Michelle does seem to get a bad rap.  After all, if she gets these exemptions to play in men’s tournaments why not do it?  A lot has been written recently about how Michelle should stick to the women’s tournaments until she actually wins one – then she can think about playing with the men.  Read more here.
