Michelle’s Putting Improves at US Open

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

The bogey at the 13th on Sunday may have cost Michelle Wie the US Open on Sunday, but in true Michelle Wie fashion she is optimistic about putting a win under her belt in the near future.  One thing she is happy about is her improved putting game, especially in pressure situations.Michelle averaged just 28.3 putts per round at Newport.

“…I really feel like I showed this week that I can really putt because I made putts when I needed to.  And I felt like the speed of my putts were the best ever, and I feel like my game is getting better and better” Michelle remarked on Sunday.

Sunday will go down as one of the longest final days of Women’s US Open history.  To play golf at such a high level for 11 hours is a feat in itself.  Michelle showed she has what it takes to hang with the best women in the world.  You’ve got wonder how long it will be before she starts totally dominating them.  Maybe by her senior prom?

Wie Ends US Open 2 Shots Back

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

After a grueling day 36 hole day at the Women’s US Open, Michelle Wie came oh so close to winning another major.  Michelle finished even par just 2 strokes back from Annika and Pat Hurst who will battle it out Monday morning to determine the winner.  Michelle has finished in the top 5 in a handful of majors already in her short career.

Even when she did hit shots that could have put her in trouble, she managed to fight her way to not losing ground.  No question that Michelle silenced some naysayers with another strong finish against the best women players in the world.  No doubt she will put one in the can very soon.  This tournament must have given her a strong boost of confidence and made her that much more hungry to get her first win.  Hats off to Hurst and Sorenstam who played solid golf throughout the day.
