Stanford Pro-Am Kicks off This Weekend

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The first LPGA Pro-Am kicks off this weekend without the women’s number one play Lorena Ochoa. But there will still be some big golf names on the roster, including Anikka and Paula Creamer. The tournament is the first Pro-Am for the tour in 7 years and will feature 44 of the top 50 names on the money list. A few big stars will be testing their golf skill against the women as well, including James Caan, Mike Schmidt, Ivan Lendl and even television news man Stone Phillips.

Caan, an 11 handicapper will be paired with Chistina Kim. When asked about the event, Caan quipped, “It’s fun, and it’s an honor to be here. On the other hand, they’re here to make money. I’m capable of going out and shooting even or a couple over. But I’m very capable of shooting 95. And these particular surroundings are more conducive to the 95. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I’m going to be taking probably shots of Valium every two or three holes or something.”

Another Exemption: Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic

Friday, April 11th, 2008

You have got to love those sponsor exemptions, especially if you are Michelle Wie (or John Daly!) Michelle has just accepted yet another sponsor exemption - the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic to take place in a suburb of Toledo starting July 10th.

As you may remember, Michelle’s wrist troubles surfaced again a few weeks ago, forcing her to withdraw from the Safeway tournament.

The fact that the tournament is not til July should give Michelle time to nurse that wrist back to good health. Oh, and on another note…what is with some of these tournament names? The “Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic?” What will they think of next….
