Ochoa, Webb and Wie Battle at Evian Masters
Friday, July 28th, 2006The 77 best women golfers in the world are competing at the Evian Masters for $450,00 1st place prize money today. Michelle Wie, Lorena Ochoa and Karrie Webb are all in the hunt tied at nine under par. This is Michelle’s third attempt at winning the Evian Masters and this time around she is playing solid golf. Last year, Michelle tied for second place with Ochoa and in 2004 she managed to tie for 33rd place.
It is just a matter of time before Michelle wraps one up on the LPGA. After 31 LPGA appearances, she has yet to win one but she sure has come close. Granted, being close only counts for atom bombs and horseshoes, but this weekend could prove to be Michelle’s first win in an LPGA event. Michelle needs to start hanging out more with Tiger Woods, the king of focus and of putting the hammer down when he leads going into the weekend. The British Open was a classic example of his uncanny ability to simply not lose when leading a tournament going into the weekend. If Michelle can master this ability as Tiger has, she will be unstoppable in the years ahead. We may even get bored with her winning so much, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
