Michelle Reaches Final Stage of Q School

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

She can taste that 2009 tour card already.

Michelle Wie tied for fourth at the LPGA Tour’s sectional qualifying school, making it to December’s final stage of qualifying for that most coveted 2009 tour card, and the chance to get back to business playing on the LPGA.

Wie shot a 1-under-par 71 on the Dinah Shore course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. She finished at 8-under 280 for the week, eight strokes behind winner Sun-Ju Ahn of South Korea, who shot a 4-under 68 yesterday. Anna Nordqvist of Sweden finished second, two strokes back, with a 14-under total after a 2-under 70.

Two Canadians were among the 32 players who advanced to the final stage of qualifying. Oshawa, Ont.’s Angela Buzminski (71-285) was ninth, while Montreal’s Lisa Meldrum (72-289) tied for 18th.

Got to hand it to those South Koreans though. Man, those ladies can play some golf. You have to wonder just what the hell they are doing over there to produce such great women golfers. Maybe its the water. Whatever it is, they sure keep coming out of the woodword to give our ladies a run for their money.

Michelle Wie Burning Up Q School

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

If you don’t know by now, Michelle Wie was forced to go to Qualifying school to be able to play on the LPGA tour next year. It started on Tuesday and she has been playing…. well, let’s just say she is playing the way people expected her to play at the point of turning pro 3 years ago.

Michelle started ended the first round on Tuesday shooting a respectable 2 under par 70. 5 birdies and 3 bogeys. Not too shabby.

She eclipsed the first day by shooting a 7 under 65 on day two of the qualifying tournament - putting her in 2nd place and just a few strokes from the leader.

Has Michelle finally figured out the path for her golf career? Unless she totally folds over the next couple days, Michelle should be able to snag a 2009 tour card. Along the way, this tournament should give her the confidence to move forward after 3 years of ups and downs.

Maybe this was what Michelle need all along. The chance to show what she can do on the golf course. Be interesting to see how this pans out now!
