michelle wie

She just got done shooting an 80 in the Women’s British Open. I personally believe she made a mistake in going pro instead of going to college. Don’t get me wrong we all make bad decisions but she could cost herself a lot of money down the road if she doesn’t start preforming better. I just think she was so over-hyped. She will never be the next Tiger Woods. She needs to be a kid again.

look at her career earnings so far… why would you give that up to go to college? she can go to college any time she wants now… this isn’t like the NBA where they tell you to go to school to develop your skills and then declare for the draft. Golfers don’t go to college to develop their game and get scouted like other athletes, so there’s nothing significant to be gained. It’s a pretty smart move – who would turn down significant amounts of money just to go to college (college can wait)? Plus, her father is a university stats professor so I think they know what they are doing =P.

She is going to Stanford this fall. Unlike Tiger she should do something he has yet to do………graduate from Stanford.

I do not see her dominating women’s golf.

Say what you want about her decision but to answer your question, she not only is one of, she IS the most overrated athlete today. She brought it upon herself but not by eschewing the normal route; lots of young golfers do that. In fact, she has brought it upon herself because she signed a $10 million deal with Nike that was based on her potential and since WDing from the John Deere Classic in the summer of ‘06, she has played very poorly.

The tragedy is that her parents have guided her to where she is today but Michelle is the one that must deal with it daily. She’s learned the hard way that money does not buy happiness. And she’s a terrific example of why the sport of golf is so great. For most, you need to play to get paid. Not her. And the game shows no mercy. She seems to have a solid inner circle, despite her misdirection, but I’m holding out all hope that she doesn’t become another Jennifer Capriati.

I do not believe in being overrated or underrated, that is something made up by the extended coverage of the media. The media today do not look for talent at any level or any age … they look for “young”, “prodigy”. it is no longer about sports itself it is about publicity and big titles on the front page.
Here is what Wie said today “It’s a disappointment because I didn’t play as well as I wanted to,”
You don’t play as good as you want to you play as good as you CAN. obviously the media made a circus out of Wie and her ability to compete in high level. I tell Wie: take a couple of years off, work harder than ever, focus on your game and your game only … then come back and crush them … until then … yes i guess she is overrated indeed. ( I hate that term)

Your comments after your headline were dead on. Over hyped and used by money grubbing managers, parents and promoters. She needs to be a real person. I was watching her card on LPGA.com (we don’t get the Women’s Open on TV here) and thinking she might make the cut. Then that back nine. A triple bogey will kill you every time.

I just hope she can eventually be a consistent LPGA player but I fear she has been screwed up, perhaps forever.

definitely! she isnt even that good. my friend met her and she was really cocky and had that attitude of “im michelle wie and who the hell are you?”

its disgusting. my friend is only 17 and she scored 72!! and thats not even her personal best. well, my friend is going on to the LPGA’s anyway so HA!

When Wie first entered the LPGA and the occasional PGA tournament, she was considered to be the next best thing for golf. But, over the years since, her performance hasn’t got any better. Some would also say that she has gotten worse. I believe that if she really does want to continue playing professional golf she should go to college and come back to the tour in a couple of years.
