Jeff Gove Blames Wie for Poor Round

Jeff Gove was one who was glad to see Michelle Wie withdraw from the last week’s John Deere Classic due to heat exhaustion.  Gove’s remarks after the fact were scathing and will probably stay around to haunt him especially if he ends up paired in future outings with Michelle.  Here is a transcript of some of his remarks…

“She’s got a beautiful swing, but she’s got her name on her bags and she needs to be professional,” said Gove. “If she wants to play pro golf, she needs to learn how to act.” Gove (who has missed 7-of-9 cuts recently) went on to blame Wie for the fact he missed another one this week. “I’m here to win the tournament. And I never had a rhythm in two days, so that was unfortunate. We definitely had a tougher go than the rest of the guys, which isn’t fair.” He then went on to say he was happy when she finally shut it down. “She just said, ‘I’m going to withdraw,’ which was good because she was holding us up again,” said Gove, who finished at 1-over par 143, missing the cut by three strokes.

Wow…talk about sour grapes.  Does your name on your bag really make you that “unprofessional”?  Granted, having a huge gallery and media circus following you and a 16 year old girl around may not be the most relaxing atmosphere to play golf in, but this guy better get used to it if he wants to be a one of the best golfers in the world.  Imagine him being paired with Tiger Woods one day, he’ll be an absolute wreck.  By the way, the other golfer in the group Daisuke Maruyama made the cut and not a word was mentioned of Michelle’s play.
