Sorenstam Wie Get Upset in Match Play
The world’s number 1 and 2 women’s golfers got trounced this weekend by a 46 year old and a 20 year old. Both Michelle Michelle Wie and Annika Sorenstam lost in match play this weekend to veteran Juli Inkster and young rising star Britney Lincicome. Lincicome ended up putting Inkster away to win the tournament. Like Michelle Wie, Lincicome was a junior prodigy as well. In fact, she has a history of winning 60 percent of the tournaments she entered as an amateur. She turned pro without going for college experience, but that certainly hasn’t seemed to hurt. Lincicome has led the LPGA Tour in driving distance as a rookie in 2005 and was among the 54-hole leaders at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Lincicome has a story behind her as well. She was not born into golf royalty and bred with the best instructors and coaches from an early age. In fact, her parents own a day care center and her dad even caddies for her. She was busy saving money babysitting before she joined the LPGA. So as Michelle gets all the attention, Lincicome is quietly starting to make her mark on the LPGA and this weekend she made a few heads turn, in more ways than one…..
Michelle is off to play this weekend in another men’s tournament, the John Deere classic. More on that later this week.
