Bodie asked:

Everytime I turn on ESPN I end up having to hear about her and for the life of me, I can’t understand why. She fakes injuries, refuses to join the LPGA so that she doesn’t have to abide by their rules, and has absolutely no respect for the sport.

Oh yeah, as for golf, she can’t even beat girls her own age like Creamer, Ochoa, or Pressel let alone win against grown men or women pro golfers.

Why does she continue to get so much attention? I know she gets offered exemptions to play in tourneys because the tourneys will make a lot of money. And the tourneys make a lot of money because people pay to see her. I guess my question should be, “Why are people in awe of her and pay so much attention to her when she can’t win at anything?”

And please don’t answer by saying, “Leave her alone, she’s only 17.” She chose to go into the spotlight, she chose to draw attention to herself by trying to play against adults, and even 17 year olds should take responsiblity for their actions.

  • The Emperor says:

She’s the Anna Kournikova of golf. Is she 18 yet? The emperor always has an opening for concubines.

  • Wes B says:

She was the first person in history, man or woman, to successfully become an hero.

  • clear mascara says:

Leave her alone, she’s only 17

  • EDWARD H K says:

She became famous because of her youth and talent. (did you ever see Tiger Woods on TV when he was a pre-teen? fantastic!
She is going through a difficult time, in a slump, and this latest incident may very well be the result of poor advice.

  • kiikart says:

She’s also really smart, well supposedly…if she isn’t going to Stanford just because of her golf career.

    More:

She turned bro when she was 16.

Tells us how you really feel?

I’m tired of seeing her too, but no matter what we say, she’s still extremely marketable. When she’s playing decent golf, she can compete very well, but it seems that lately, with all of her “I’m going to qualify in the mens events BS”, that she is not on the top of her game. She has a lot of people behind the scenes who are pulling her strings, and with that kind of money being thrown your way, I’m not sure how I’d handle the pressure of it all at her age either. Time will tell if she will mature enough to become a world class golfer or just a Nike experiment gone wrong.

  • Golfsweetie92 says:

because she is seventeen. that is the only reason. and she is a skilled golfer. i dont care for her either. she doesnt deserve to play on the mens tour if she cant even win on the womens tour. but hey, she is seventeen and many people think she is a hero. i sure as hell dont, but some may

  • Scott W says:

because she is really good and really HOT!!

  • bJacketsadboy says:

Because she is a woman and the national media rams womens sports down our throats constantly, thanks to Title 9 fallout. Just look at the WNBA…does anybody really care????

And yet ESPN makes fun of hockey at any chance. The WNBA is a complete laughter. I would rather watch somebody have kidney stones removed than watch them play.

  • Jake N says:

She’s young. Plain and simple. Good marketer. Was supposed to be good and now that she sucks she is getting even more popular. Popular as in people knowing her. I think a lot of people are pissed now that she quit during a crappy round.

  • ticktag says:

Coz she’s tall, has a good looking pair of legs and of course .. nice b##bs too

Those aside, I think she got these much of attention because she drives her ball miles further than most of us (the guys). Else to that, there’s nothing much to shout about.

She is a very talented player, she needs to spend more time on her short game. The only reason people are tired of seeing her is because she get to play with the men. I don’t think it really matter that she has yet to win, because she has been so close to winning and she is 17. She will not be a bust or fraud. Just wait and see

  • davester1970 says:

That is a good question. I have been trying to figure that one out myself. She is supposed to be the next big thing to happen in women’s golf. Instead, she has turned into one big freak show. Wie and her those around her has mishandled her career very, very badly. Instead of being the next Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam, she is becoming the next Ty Tryon.

She really hasn’t won anything or even remotely competed in any tournaments. Only thing she has done is gotten paid by sponsers. That is only going to last a short time if she doesn’t at least start competing.

Speaking of Anna Kournikova, does Michelle Wie model? She may want to fall back on that the rate her game is not going.

  • Tracer says:

Despite your justified critique of her, the fact remains that she’s a brilliant golfer with ENORMOUS potential. That’s what is garnering her such attention. I sense that you begrudge this to her.

  • wbaker777 says:

Well I would not use the term Famous. 1. She is only like 17 so she cannot join the LPGA without them granting an exemption. 2. She does have talent and is marketable equate that to $$$$$. 3. After this latest incident I would use the term…..She has notoriety…rather than “famous” 4. Until she proves consistency……well nuff said on that
